Cinco de Mayo

Now without boring you too much with a history lesson, I do think it’s important to recognise the significance of Cinco de Mayo.

‍

Cinco de Mayo, also known as the anniversary of the battle of Puebla is a holiday that is celebrated in Mexico and parts of the US in honour of the military victory over the French forces in 1862. It is celebrated on the 5th of May (as the name literally translates to the Fifth of May in Spanish), every year. Now what other drink to serve than a Margarita?

‍

‍

‍

Margaritas

Now I feel that margaritas are a part of Mexican’s daily diet and I’m actually a bit jealous, they are so good 🤤. There are so many ways you can go with this drink, shaken, blended, spicy, sweet, sour, you name it!

‍

Now even if you’re not in Mexico, this cocktail will make it feel like you are. It’s sweet, refreshing, tangy and has a good kick of spice. AKA, the best way to celebrate the fifth of May.

‍

Also, if spice is not your thing, you can definitely omit the jalapeño and switch out the chilli for regular salt, you do you!

Tips for making the best cocktail

  • Use good quality alcohol - there’s a fair amount of alcohol in this recipe, so don’t go cheap here. Using a high-quality tequila and liquor makes all the difference! My absolute favourite tequila is PatrĂłn and I can highly recommend Cointreau for the orange liquor.

‍

  • Chill chill chill - A cocktail is at its best when it’s chilled properly. Now you can do this by freezing your glass before serving and shaking your cocktail over ice until completely chilled. If you have a good size freezer, you can also store your tequila in there as alcohol can’t freeze.

‍

  • Ratio baby - Making a good cocktail is all about the right ratio. You need part alcohol, something sweet and something sour to balance it all out. This margarita even adds the dimension of salt & spice, what’s not to love!

‍

Bottoms up loves! xx
