The Best Shakshuka Recipe

An easy, healthy, fresh but most importantly DELICIOUS dish to serve for breakfast, lunch or even dinner!

Ingredients

  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 onion 
  • 2 stalks of green onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 can of tomato polpa or passata
  • 2tsp paprika powder
  • 1tsp smoked paprika powder
  • 1tsp cumin
  • 1/2tsp chilli powder or dried chilli flakes
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 3-6 eggs
  • Feta cheese
  • Chopped parsley and/or cilantro
  • Toasted bread to serve with

Instructions

  1. Finely dice your bell pepper, onion, green onion & garlic 
  2. Heat some olive oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat and start frying your onion & green onion
  3. After sauteing for 3 minutes, add your bell pepper and continue to saute for another 4 minutes. Lastly, add the garlic and cook for another minute
  4. Add your spices and stir until combined, then add your tomato sauce and bring your heat back to medium. Season your sauce with salt and pepper to taste
  5. Once the sauce simmers, create a few wells in your sauce and carefully crack in your eggs.
  6. Cover the pan with a lid and leave the eggs to poach for  5-8 minutes, depending on how well cooked you like your eggs
  7. Once poached, turn off the heat and garnish your shakshuka with crumbled feta & fresh herbs on top
  8. Serve with freshly toasted bread and enjoy!
